DETROIT (WXYZ) - A federal grant will help Detroiters train for work in the state's growing film industry.
Governor Jennifer Granholm, Mayor Dave Bing and Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano announced Monday the $438,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor will go to the Detroit Workforce Development Department, which is a Michigan Works! agency.
The DWDD film technician training program will provide hands-on education in the film production and employment opportunities in the industry.
A year-long curriculum has been developed by the Wayne County Community College District in conjunction with the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees and the Michigan Film Office.
The training program is expected to graduate 45 to 60 students over the next two years.
Admission to the program is open to Detroit residents.
